The first surgery to treat depression in Saudi Arabia

The first surgery to treat depression is successful in Saudi Arabia

Have you ever known that you can treat depression through surgery? Of course no!, while I was scrolling in twitter I saw this tweet that was about this surgery, and I was amazed about how we’ve evolved this far. in this article I will write about the first surgery that has been performed to treat depression.

A patient with chronic depression who had undergone more than 25 years of surgical intervention to relieve his severe symptoms and accompanying anxiety has been treated by medical team at King Salman Medical City in Madinah that are specialized in neurosurgery and psychiatry.

The team performed a “bilateral anterior gyrus resection” under full anesthesia, which was successful without any complications. The patient’s mood and psychological condition have been improved, his sleep patterns reverted to normal, he stopped thinking about death excessively and experiencing constant grief, and his anxiety about the future subsided.

Such an amazing work, proud to be Saudi.

the cause behind Atrial fibrillation and how to prevent it

Atrial fibrillation (A-fib) is an irregular and often very rapid heart rhythm (arrhythmia) that can lead to blood clots in the heart. A-fib increases the risk of stroke, heart failure and other heart related complications.

During atrial fibrillation, the heart’s upper chambers (the atria) beat chaotically and irregularly ,out of sync with the lower chambers (the ventricles) of the heart. For many people, A-fib may have no symptoms. However, A-fib may cause a fast, pounding heartbeat (palpitations), shortness of breath or weakness.

During my research, some researchers revealed that a structural issue with the heart is the most frequent cause of atrial fibrillation.

Additional potential causes include coronary artery disease, high blood pressure, sleep apnea, congenital heart defects, heart valve issues, lung disease, physical stress from surgery, and thyroid conditions including (hyperthyroidism).

As a nurse, I’ve always known the best approach to prevent A-fib is to maintain a healthy lifestyle, which is always the best choice. Maintaining a healthy diet low in salt, saturated fats, trans fats, and cholesterol is another way to prevent A-fib. You should also control blood pressure elevation, engage in regular exercise, and maintain a healthy body weight.

In your opinion what is the cause behind A-fib and how to prevent it?
